Montréal's downtown looks beautiful after heavy rain, especially with a vibrant sunset. Mount Royal is visible behind the buildings. The colours remain unchanged, simply filling in the shadows.

Now that the front building is finished, I've lost that fantastic view 😢

The Colours of Sirius – Day 2 ✨🌈

A bit more progress in capturing the beautiful colours that the brightest star in the sky shows due to atmospheric turbulence, constantly changing the wavelength-dependent refractive index along the line of sight 🤓

This time with my defocussed 15x70 binoculars, filmed with my iPhone at 120 fps (so slowed down by 4 x).

Will try again tonight with the 3 x tele lens, if I can line it up / get any photons 🤷‍♂️

A very pretty conjunction between the Moon & Venus in clear cold skies this evening 🙂

There was some excellent earthshine to be seen, sunlight reflected off the Atlantic lighting up the otherwise dark part of the Moon 🌒

And it was easy to see that Venus was a crescent, with sunlight striking it in pretty much the same as it was hitting the Moon 🌙

Frankly, it borders on the obscene just how deep a modern smartphone can go 🙀

This 30 sec iPhone 15 wide-field image shows open clusters like M35, faint planets like Uranus, & clearly separates both M42 & M43 in the Orion Nebula ✨

And since it detects stars almost to 10th magnitude (yes, I checked 🙂), you can readily make out the Taurus-Auriga dark clouds as regions where stars are 'missing' 🌚

Mad.

A spontaneous shot with my phone while traveling from Frankfurt to Cologne. It looked so mysterious and fascinating with the mist over the field, the bright moon and the stars, plus the reflection of the sky in those puddles of water.

The lower part of the photo shows a road into a field. It’s very dark, nearly black, but there are puddles of water on the road which reflect the blue sky. Towards the horizon it’s getting quite misty, though some trees, a power pole and the red warning lights of wind power plants are visible. The upper side displays a blue sky with a bright moon and some stars.
