Having trouble with an #Ubuntu LTS upgrade that went badly, I was wondering: is #snap still a Bad Thing? Are the speed problems better? The communication between programs fixed? (Snap Firefox couldn't validate my country's electronic ID card, preventing access to most governemental web services). Is the store open-sourced now? Something else? (my search-fu failed me) (also it seems I fixed most of the troubles with the bad upgrade, still pondering reinstalling a distro for a fresh start.)
@gherhartd from my work as sysadmin and my testing of #ubuntu2410 - desktop Snaps are absolute, hot, steaming pile of garbage. They are somehow even worse than I remember from #ubuntu2004 .
On servers however, when you use them for terminal-only soft, like Docker, Kubernetes, LXD - they are the best thing that happened to Linux server.
It's weird, but it is what it is
