Martin Rundkvist<p>The Copernican revolution in our worldview is often phrased that we realised that the Earth moves around the Sun. But there's another important way to look at this.</p><p>For many thousands of years, people had known that there are five "stars" that move around dramatically relative to the fixed ones. A few of the five are exceptionally bright, notably Mars and Venus. The ancient Greeks called them "wandering stars", planetes asteres -- planets. 1/2</p><p><a href="https://archaeo.social/tags/history" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>history</span></a> <a href="https://archaeo.social/tags/astronomy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>astronomy</span></a> <a href="https://archaeo.social/tags/cosmology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cosmology</span></a> <a href="https://archaeo.social/tags/space" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>space</span></a></p>
